1) AME CONSULTATION - Strongly consider an AME Consultation before your exam. New FAA policies are likely to delay your certification if you are not properly prepared.
2) MEDXPRESS - A MedXPress application is a mandatory pre-requisite to the medical exam. Read below for more information.
3) COLOR VISION - Color vision testing changes dramatically in 2025. See the next section over and be prepared!
FAA MedXPress Application is
MANDATORY
You are applying to the FAA for medical certification.
If you bring us your FAA application, we are authorized to perform the FAA’s exam. But without an application, there is nothing we can do.
You are responsible for and required to complete the FAA MedXPress application each time you apply for medical certification / recertification. You must bring the printed summary or your confirmation number with you to your appointment. If you do not have this completed when you show up for your appointment:
Your appointment will be cancelled and you will be charged the cancellation fee.
Check out the Educational Video Clips from PilotMinute.com.
Effective Jan 1, 2025 the FAA is updating their color vision policy!
Only first-time applicants are required to have a color vision assessment. All previous examinees are to be "grandfathered" in and will not require new color vision testing unless under a new FAA requirement.
COLOR VISION TESTING IS NO LONGER INCLUDED WITH THE MEDICAL EXAM
Color vision testing is now a separate / add-on service for an additional fee.
If you do not have a passing test (either here or from elsewhere) you may only be issued a 3rd Class medical certificate with a color vision limitation. You will then need to work with the FAA to be considered for an upgrade.
We make payment EASY by accepting all of the following for your convenience:
Full payment is due at the time services are rendered (a credit card hold is required to schedule an appointment).
PRICE UPDATES: Please understand that it is necessary for us to adjust our prices on occasion to match the cost-of-business.

Are you interested in becoming an Aviation Medical Examiner (AME)???
That’s great!
Any state licensed physician may apply to the FAA to become an AME. If the FAA determines there is a need and they approve of your application they will authorize basic training (usually a 4-5 day course in Oklahoma City). At that training some of what they teach you are their medical standards, what conditions need to be deferred to the FAA, items required to be accomplished during an exam, and what medical equipment you are required to have. But then you are on your own. This leads to individual physicians each “re-inventing the wheel” and starting from scratch. It also leads to great diversity in practices (some are quite professional and modern whereas others are pretty bare and outdated) and results.
At Texas AME (United AME), we are a consortium of independent Providers who all work together under an Office Sharing Agreement. The Practice provides a “turn key” solution and everything needed to jump right in and start seeing pilot applicants! From modern offices with current equipment, to professional scheduling, merchant processing, and an established online presence, it couldn’t be easier! As a Provider, you get to focus on the aspects you enjoy while leaning on the expertise and experience of the Practice to handle the rest.
We’re always on the lookout for new Providers (and new Locations!) who want to be a part of advancing the practice of being an Aviation Medical Examiner. If you have aspirations and/or a location in mind, let us know and we can probably help make it a reality!
